It is extremely important to look after your body when swimming. Your body will not perform as it should if you are not healthy, and your chance of injury will rise. Here are a few tips are essential for staying safe:
Begin with a warm up
Warming up your muscles, joints, and ligaments prepares your body for exercise. Athletes who do not begin their workout with a warm-up routine are more likely to get injured than those who do. Your coach or doctor can advise you on exercises that are ideal for the type of swimming you do.
Use proper technique
Having proper technique is vital in sport as it helps keep you safe and keeps you swimming efficiently. Ask your trainer or coach to watch you swim a few laps of each stroke, allowing them to identify any errors in your technique that may put you at risk for joint and muscle problems.
Work out all your muscle groups
You should not be focusing solely on the muscles you'll use in the water. When you swim, your body functions together as a unit, which is why keeping your entire body fit is crucial to avoiding injuries. Weight training is recommended to help you focus on getting all of your muscle groups ready to swim.
Be aware of your surroundings
Take your time and be particularly cautious of other swimmers and obstructions if you're swimming in a lake or ocean with limited visibility. The larger the number of individuals in your immediate vicinity, the greater the chance of injury.
Don’t swim if you’re not healthy
If you have a fever or a cold, or if you just don’t feel well, you are advised not to swim. An athlete who is not in good physical shape could be a danger in the water to themselves and to the other swimmers in the water. Make sure you rest and recover from any illness or injury before getting into the water!
Look at this beautiful Limmys kids swimming vest. We got the next size up for when we hit the pool or a beach (next year) 🙌😅 The quality is super amazing and the feel is wonderful. I love the fact that it has a secure belt underneath to stop the vest riding up when in the water and also that is has removable floats for when he becomes more water able. Oh and it comes with its very own drawstring bag too 🙌. Absoloutley love it the quality is superior and will give him so much more water confidence. Photo: @titanbaby18
When you can’t go outside, bring the outdoors inside! 🌱🌿🌷🌹 Well with our new @limmyskids Build your dream garden set you certainly can. 🌸🌺🌼🌻🌹🌷. I can honestly say I was super impressed with this. Leonie was able to make some serious flower master pieces. It’s made up of 105 pieces of stems, flowers and a base. Leonie loved it and Mummy enjoyed playing too. If your kids are Duplo fans too this can actually join up to toy bricks. So dual purpose. Photo: @mothergoodofficial
Normally Noam love to pick one flower for me, now he is building me a whole garden 🌸. On the IGTV the unboxing you could see how happy Noam was with the toy. I personally really like it and Noam is too. But really, who doesn’t love flowers? And with this you can build your own dream garden full with flowers! You can make every flower a different one with all the colorful parts! And there are a many colorful parts and also a lot of beautiful colors. The toy is strong and also compatible with Duplo so you can even build more and more. Photo: @j_essicah_mommy_of_noam
The adventures of my little mechanic continue - thanks to these magnetic blocks by @limmyskids where he was always just fixing cars before he is now building them too and loving every minute of it. Growing up I too used to love those magnetic toys with little sticks till they got banned but I wasnt very creative and couldnt make anything 😂. What cool magnetic block inventions have your little ones come up with? Photo: @mumsyandmo
We made the most of the weather today seeing as we are due rain tomorrow. Snow tried on her new swim vest by @limmyskids today. These vests are honestly amazing, the quality is so good and the safety strap between the legs prevents the vest from riding up when in water and keeps your child in the safest position. These are available from ages 1 right up to 9years old. We got ours over on amazon, where you can find and purchase them yourselfs. These would be perfect over summer for use in paddling/swimming pools, for that added peace of mind your child is safe. And for when this lockdown is over a perfect addition to take with you to the swimming baths and on holiday. 😎🌞 Photo: @emilykopjas_xox
lliot has been loving these magnetic building blocks from @limmyskids 🧡 They keep him so busy and entertained! They’re such a fun way to get his creativity and imagination going. He loves building a big tower and crashing it with his monster trucks! He also loves all the other fun things we’ve made; a rocket, cars, a little playground, and a turtle, all thanks to the free booklet it came with that’s full of ideas. You guys, the possibilities are honestly endless with these blocks so be sure to check them out! Photo: @simply_brianne
Aurora and Athena are loving these magnetic building blocks! Other than just building I can see teaching colors, shapes, counting and so much more. Limmys follows the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) model. It comes with an idea booklet on things to build and they have even more ideas on their website! I don’t know about you but love a good multipurpose toy!

Hazel’s been playing with these magnetic building blocks from @limmyskids for the past two days since we got them. Her favorite thing is building something and then crushing it 💪🏻. She currently has them in an old lunchbox of mine I gave her in her room (so Dominic doesn’t get them 😂) Photo: @darling_octobers
Perfect for little ones! I brought this life vest/ swim vest for my son who is 17 months old. He absolutely loves water but can’t swim so we wanted something to help him like arm bands or a ring. Whilst look I actually found this and straight away fell in love with it! It’s super easy to use, just put it on, zip it up and adjust the straps, it’s not heavy at all and feels like amazing quality! We recently went to the beach and my son loved it. He didn’t fuss at all and didn’t seem bothered by it at all which is a bonus! It’s perfect for little ones and gives you extra piece of mind when they go into the water or swimming! Definitely recommend trying this out!! Photo: Victoria Jenner
Imagination! I thought they’d be great for ems! But turns out Rufus loves them to!! We’ve made all sorts off different things from houses to hot air balloons we can’t wait to get some more so we can make bigger and better things!
These are perfect for toddlers and easy to build with, Nellie is very independent and loved stacking these together and making different objects. Nellie loves anything that moves so was very happy with making the car. They are the perfect toy to keep them entertained for hours. We also used this as a little bit of a learning game with colours. These are brilliant value for money and can be found on Amazon. These amazing two sets also come with a travel bag for all the pieces so you can take this toy on the go with you, perfect to keep little ones busy when out and about. Would definitely recommend to anyone who has a little one that loves building. Photo: @nellie_anne04
